Acupuncture is an ancient and effective method of medical treatment. First developed in China over 3000 years ago, acupuncture is now used by physicians world wide for the management of many medical and psychological problems.
Dr. Jahn has had an interest in complementary medicine for many years. He obtained his acupuncture training through the American College of Medical Acupuncture (Director Dr. Peter Teng), in New York and at the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Chengdu (Szechuan), China. Medical acupuncture is particularly effective for ear, nose and throat disorders. Especially among singers, many ENT disorders are brought on by stress, excessive tension and related weakness in immune response. Often, such problems respond dramatically to acupuncture, or a combination of acupuncture and conventional Western medical treatment.
For the last several years Dr. Jahn has incorporated acupuncture into the practice of otolaryngology. He has found that, in combination with modern Western medical methods, acupuncture may be effective, often without the need for medications or surgery. Acupuncture offers a further benefit, immediate results without the potential side effects of prescription medications. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Jahn has, for several years, taught a course on Medical Acupuncture to other ENT specialists at the American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery.
Some of the medical conditions affecting singers that benefit from acupuncture are listed in the table below.
